What’s up Tuesday? I’m currently sitting here in the wee early hours of the morning, secretly wishing I was still hanging out at the beach. I’ve been back in D.C. just over 24 hours after a long, relaxing and gorgeous weekend in the Outerbanks of North Carolina (OBX). I’ve shared much of my love for the Jersey Shore with you all but it’s now time for my other beloved beach town to get the spotlight!
My in-laws (so cool I can finally say that!) retired in the OBX about 10 years ago, so lucky for Bryan and I, we sneak in a few visits a year to see them. Just like my family has gone to the same beach for the past 30 years, Bryan’s memories are the same with the OBX. It’s a total treat to have him walk me through his favorite memories and enjoy a beach town that is not as crowded as the shore tends to be. This trip the water temperature was unreal and it was so crystal clear, at times I thought I was swimming in the Gulf!
I put together a a little video montage of our weekend and some of my favorite places to eat and things to do on the island below. Have you been to any of these spots?
EAT
Black Pelican – get the fish bites, you won’t regret it!
Cravings – one of the best crab cake sandwiches I’ve ever had, perfect to stop for lunch before the beach.
Poor Richard’s – cutest little ole sandwich shop I ever did see and the best sweet tea.
La Fogata – a beer was $3.75, need I say more? Oh and the Al Pastor tacos were to die for too.
High Cotton – the fried chicken was succulent and perfectly seasoned, worth all the calories!
DO
Brew Thru – take a trip through these drive through convenience stores that are scattered around the island. Picking up beer and chips from the comfort of your car is one of my favorite things about this place!
Manteo Day Trip – visit a real life replica of the Elizabeth II ship and explore an American Indian town exhibit!
Crabbing on the bay – all you gotta do is gather some twine and raw chicken (drumsticks do the trick), drop it in the bay and watch the crabbies come!
SEE
Wright Brothers Memorial – visiting the site of the very first flight ever is pretty surreal, this place is not to be missed!
Jockey’s Ridge – I believe these are the largest natural sand dunes on the east coast, I have memories of trying to snowboard down these sandy mountains. I looked like an idiot but it sounded like a cool idea at the time!
