Turkey Burgers Stuffed with Caramelized Onions

- For Burgers:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 4 hamburger buns
- Bunch of spinach
- 4 tbs shredded cheese of your choice
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
- ⅛ tsp cumin
- 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil for cooking
- For Onions:
- 1 onion, sliced (can be vidalia, white, or yellow)
- 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
- 1 small pat of butter
- Pinch of sugar, salt and pepper
- Heat a pan on low and add evoo, butter, sugar, salt, pepper, and sliced onions.
- Cook low 'n slow for about 30 minutes or until caramel in color. Set aside.
- Combine spices in a small bowl and sprinkle into meat until evenly distributed.
- Divide meat into four patty, then separate each patty into two parts.
- Add a teaspoon of caramelized onions to one half of each burger, then top with the remaining half to secure the onions.
- Cook over evoo on high heat for five minutes on each side. Add cheese during last minute of cooking to melt.
- Serve with your favorite burger fixings and enjoy!
I like my buns toasted and I also spread some spicy dijon mustard on the bun. I find this gives the burger some nice zest!
